The heart of The Ashby Inn is its kitchen. Many refer to the inn as a "restaurant with rooms." The daily menu is limited, intelligent--and guided more by tradition than trend. Great attention is paid to seasonal foods like asparagus, shad, raspberries, softshell crabs, lamb and game. The inn's jumbo lump crab cakes are regarded as the region's best. Breads and desserts are all homemade. Herbs, cut flowers and much of the summer's produce come from our own gardens. Our Sunday brunch buffet draws diners from around the region. The table changes with the season, with omelettes made-to-order and big Smithfield hams the specialties. The inn's wine list is as thoughtful as it is well priced with prominence given to sauvignon blancs, pinot noirs, and wines from the Rhone.
